Regional Planning Overview

SCRCOG subscribes to ESRI’s Business Analyst Online (BAO), a web-based application that provides access to extensive demographic, consumer spending, and business information. Data sources include, but are not limited to, the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Dun & Bradstreet, and ESRI. The data is particularly useful for economic development and planning staff. SCRCOG’s member municipalities can access the BAO data through reports that fall into one of five categories, as described below.

Demographic Reports

Current-year estimates and projections of demographic data, such as population, income, age, housing, race, and ethnicity. (samples)

Consumer Spending Reports

Data about what consumers spend their money on. Categories include apparel, food and beverage, financial, and many others. (samples)

Tapestry Segmentation Reports

Detailed description of neighborhoods divided into over 60 distinctive segments based on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. (samples; detailed descriptions of segments)

Business Reports

Information about the businesses and employees in an area. (samples)

Market Potential Reports

Data on the products and services consumers use, need, and want to have. (samples)
