CTDOT Active Transportation Microgrant Program – 2026
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) is now accepting applications for the 2026 Active Transportation Microgrant Program. This state-funded program supports small-scale, non‑infrastructure projects that advance equitable, safe, accessible, and sustainable walking, biking, and rolling opportunities across Connecticut.

Grant Details:
- Up to $5,000 per award (no local match required)
- Funds are paid upfront—not reimbursement‑based
- Additional costs beyond the grant amount are the responsibility of the organization
- Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, contingent on available CTDOT program funding, and administered by each region’s Council of Governments (COG)
- Organizations may apply twice per calendar year, but may not have two active grants at the same time, and must spend the first award before reapplying
Eligible Non-Infrastructure Items Include:

Bicycle helmets, locks, and lights

Bicycle maintenance training & materials

Purchase or rental of bicycles, including adaptive bikes

League Cycling Instructor (LCI) training

Pedestrian and bicycle safety education materials & events

Safety vests, reflective stickers, cones, spoke reflectors

Scooters and scooter racks
-
Bicycle racks
-
Bike repair kits (purchase only, no installation)

Hand-held stop sign paddles
Not Eligible: Engineering, design, construction, or combination with other state/federal funds
Quarterly Deadlines for 2026:
- Q1: March 10th
- Q2: June 17th
- Q3: September 16th
- Q4: December 9th
Important Requirements
- All applicants must register with the CTDOT Safe Routes to School Program prior to applying.
- All items must be purchased within 12 months of receiving funds.
- Unexpended funds must be returned to the COG.
- Recipients must submit required documentation (receipts, invoices, etc.) to their COG.
SCRCOG Additional Requirement
In addition to the official CTDOT application, SCRCOG requires all applicants in our region to complete a brief supplemental addendum.
This addendum helps SCRCOG collect project details needed for regional coordination and ensures timely processing of awards.
Applicants in the South Central Region must submit:
- CTDOT Active Transportation Microgrant Application, and
- SCRCOG Microgrant Addendum Form (required for all SCRCOG applicants)
